Dexter Models is a new company that has made decals and resin in the past for the Ferrari Enzo and FXX and various motorcycle kits. Recently they have taken an interest in the Revell of Germany Audi R10. A couple of months earlier they introduced a photoetch fret for the Audi R10 that contained many pieces for the various vents. The set was not overly complex but it afforded a good look to the model when completed. It quickly sold out, but they have made another run. Just before Christmas, Dexter Models started offering a new "value" pack that contains the photoetch fret, a set of 2007 LeMans decals, brake covers, and an in car camera.
Here's everything that comes in the package. Everything is very well packaged and in its own separate bag. As you can see the decal bag is huge.
DECALS
The large bag contains three sheets of decals all printed by the famous Italian company, Cartograf. The large sheet contains all of the color swatches so all you have to do is paint the car silver unless you make car 2 or 3. Most of the large swatches are made for the winner, car 1. If you do 2 or 3, you'll have to cut the decals that go over the intakes and paint the rear brake inlets. The second sheet has all of the sponsors that aren't on the large sheet. There are extras included for the seatbelt, engine computer, dash, wheels, tires, etc. Pretty much if it is on the real thing, it is on the decals. The small sheet is just for the wing ends.
RESIN
There is a set of resin brake covers that simply just fit over the brakes in the kit. These are meant to be carbon fiber so you'll have to paint them semigloss black or put some CF decals over the entire piece. All that is needed is a little cleanup.
The next set of resin bits is an in car camera. Dexter went the extra mile while molding the antenna. The large U shaped piece was molded around the antenna to keep it from being broke during shipping.
PHOTOETCH
The main set of photoetch mainly contained pieces to detail all of the vents. There are pieces for a nice seatbelt, some interior pieces, some small engine details, various screens, and some other misc items. Studio 27 makes a nice photoetch set that compliments this set very well.
As a bonus for ordering the value package, the first 20 people receive a nameplate that can be used on the base of a display. It is simply a photoetch representation of the larger logo on all of the sets.
CONCLUSIONS
Overall I am very pleased with everything. It is a little expensive, but considering that no one will probably produce the 2007 LeMans winner, this is the way to go. There have been rumors of Studio 27 releasing a decal set for this car, but I can bet it will not be as comprehensive as this one. If you are a LeMans fan and want to build the 2007 winner this is definitely a must have. All we need now is a nice set of wheels.
